Super Bowl 47 Ratings Down; More Than 108 Million Viewers Watched
More than 108.4 million viewers watched Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday night, according to a CBS report on the Nielsen ratings. As a result, the CBS Super Bowl broadcast was the third most-watched program in television history, trailing only the 2011 and 2012 Super Bowls.
The Baltimore Ravens exciting 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers had an average national household rating of 46.3 with a 69 share, meaning nearly one of every two TV sets that exist in the U.S. were tuned to the CBS broadcast and almost seven of every 10 sets in use were watching the game. Those numbers reflect a slight decrease from the 2012 Super Bowl broadcast.
An estimated 113.35 million viewers watched the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in last year’s Super Bowl, good for a 47 rating and a 71 share. The last three Super Bowls and the final episode of “MASH” are the only television broadcasts in history to exceed 100-million viewers.
The ratings did not factor in the power outage that delayed the game for 34 minutes in the third quarter.
