According to KLTV, a Texas town is now warning individuals who see dogs in hot cars to think before acting on their urges to save the animal.

If I see an animal in a locked car in the middle of summer I am breaking that window. And I know a lot of people who feel the same way. Even though we are doing it for the right thing- the legal aspect is not on our side. We can be charged with destruction of property and be legally obligated to pay for the broken window. Not only that, there is a chance that the owner of the vehicle can press charges.

To be completely honest, I do not care. I will take the charges. If it comes down to me possibly going to prison or witnessing an animal struggle in the heat, I will gladly go down for saving that animal.

KLTV also explains that the best way to take action when spotting an animal in a hot car is to call 911.
