I can't help but reminisce about my trip to the iconic Studio 8H while watching #SNL40.

I spent a semester of college in New York City studying journalism and film back in 2010. While living there, I got to attend a taping of Saturday Night Live with host Ashton Kutcher (I died) and Them Crooked Vultures (who?) as the musical guest. And yes, that was the episode Ashton ripped his pants off.

*sigh*

It's an interesting process getting into a chair in Studio 8H.

First, you have to wait in line basically overnight to get a piece of paper with a number on it. On the night of the show, you show up at 30 Rock and line up in the order of your numbers in the back of the lobby. This is when you start praying that all people ahead of you got stuck on the subway.

You are then issued a new piece of paper with another number on it.

Next, you are herded to the elevators like cattle. All the while being lectured about not cutting and you aren't "in" until your booty is in a chair. In groups, you are sent up the elevator to the SNL level. You walk down the iconic hallway that displays historical photos from the show's now 40 year history. They're all in black and white and yes, you feel like you are immediately a part of something special.

Finally, if you are lucky you will be given a wristband, escorted into the studio and ushered to a chair. The entire process takes a few hours.

After a stern talking to about not taking pictures (and a few moments in which you want to rat out the stinky guy in front of you), you squeal with delight when the lights go down and you realize that you are, in fact, about to witness one of the greatest pieces of television first hand.

Then, in my case, Ashton Kutcher walks out and you black out for the next hour. Just kidding.

I Hulu-ed the show afterward and screenshot the moments when you could see me... kind of... sort of... OK just go with it.
