As someone who freaks out while driving in the rain It is best to be prepared for anything. According to American Red Cross and Travelers, there are several procedures you must do to stay safe.

Travelers specifies that during gusts and heavy rain is all about patience and being aware.

• make sure there is plenty of space between you and other vehicles.
• turn your lights on.
• slow down.

When it comes to severe storms American Red Cross suggests the following:

• if you know a storm is about to head your way tell someone that you are driving. Tell them where you are, where you are going, and estimated time of arrival.
• Make sure you are listening to the radio so that you know of any weather or traffic alerts that may be around you.
• If you believe you are unable to drive through the weather- pull over turn on flashers.
