Diving into the folklore of the Arklatex is mysterious adventure.  There are a lot of old wives tales and superstitions to wade through.

Here's one we put to the test.  As legend has it, the "Wooly Bear" appears all over these parts this time of year.  In trees, on the ground in wooded areas, even in your back yard.  Here's the interesting part - the color of the Wooly Bears coat determines how harsh our winter will be.  If the coat is more brown than black then a mild winter is on the way, more black than brown and it's harsh wintertown - population you!

What is a Wooly Bear?  Put down the shotgun, it's not a bear at all!

A Wooly Bear is actually a catapillar.  They are black (or brown depending on what type of winter is coming your way) catapillar of the Isabella Tiger moth.  Even though reports are coming in that mostly all black Wooly Bears are coming in, all weather reports are suggesting a mild winter.  My money's on the old wives and the Wooly Bears.
