‘World Changers’ Are Making a Difference in Shreveport

Nearly 90 teenagers are in town this week, on their own dime, to participate in community service projects all over Shreveport.

They're part of World Changers, now in its 25th summer of operation. This summer, more than 12,000 students make a decision to pay money out of their own pockets in order to help improve living conditions of people across the U.S. and Canada.

World Changers Missions/Communications Specialist Wesley Peña told KEEL News why these students decided to participate.

"They want to be here because they want to show God's love," she said. "It's one thing to sit in church and to listen to the words 'God loves you,' but it's another thing to come and show us that he does."

Peña said a lot of these teens have been doing fundraisers and taking donations since last summer to be able to participate this year. It costs each student about $250 to take part.

The group has a variety of assignments, ranging from painting house to putting up siding on homes to building decks. They kicked off the major part of their work today. They'll be here in Shreveport until July 11, and will be staying at Camp Bethany.

World Changers is a ministry of LifeWay Christian Resources. Locally, the organization is partnering with Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association and other businesses.
