10 Must-Watch Movies Before Geek’d Con 2025 Kicks Off
Geek'd Con, The biggest pop-culture comic convention in the Shreveport-Bossier City area is back for it's 10 year anniversary. Fans have been hyped up for the line up of celebrity guests new and old making their way to Shreveport this August for Geek'd Con 2025. With such a deep list of celebrity guests, fans have a big list of movies to watch for their comic con preparation, so we put together a condensed list of teh 10 fan favorite films to watch before Geek'd Con 2025
Geek'd Con has always featured incredible movie guests, I mean their first show had the original actor for Chewbacca. This year the guest list comes with a long movie list, so to keep the viewing short and easy, I put together the essentail movies to watch for this year's show.
As a bonus, in the modern age of a million different streaming apps, we found where each of these movies are available.
If you're a fan of a certain guest like Jason Lee, then feel free to just watch whatever makes you happy, but for a good general primer before Geek'd Con 2025, here are the movies you should check out:
- Scream (1996) - Featured Guest: Rose McGowan
A thriller-horror classic, Scream actors are no stranger to Geek'd Con. Always worth a rewatch, the iconic scream queen Rose McGowan from the featured film will be in Shreveport this Auguts.
Where to Watch Scream: HBO Max - Mallrats (1995) - Featured Guest: Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee
The second feature film from Kevin Smith, another previous Geek'd Con guest, Mallrats has become a cult classic film for fans, but don't let that run you away if you've never seen the film. Mallrats has a following decades later for a reason.
Where to Watch Mallrats: Amazon Prime Video - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) - Featured Guest: Alan Ruck
Of the movies on this list Ferris Bueller's Day Off has the best reviews across the board, and if you have seen the movie it shouldn't be too surprising. If you're younger and haven't seen the movie, it might seem like a cheesy 1980's dramady but it's an enjoyable watch no matter the age.
Where to Watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off: PlutoTV - Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) - Featured Guest: Barry Bostwick
The oldest movie on the list is the one that might be the most essential on this list, if it weren't for Geek'd Con sake. Rocky Horror Picture Show is like lightening in a bottle, movies like this just don't exist anymore. Well worth at least one watch.
Where to Watch Rocky Horror Picture Show: Sadly no streaming service carries the movie, but it is available for purchase online. - Kingpin (1996) - Featured Guest: Vanessa Angel
The second 90s comedy on the list, Kingpin is a fun movie to watch anytime of year. While Vanessa Angel is the attraction for Geek'd Con this year, Woody Harelson gets a moment to let his comedic side shine.
Where to Watch Kingpin: Paramount+ - Mortal Kombat (1995) - Featured Guest: Francois Petit, Chris Casamassa
The 1995 Mortal Kombat isn't the greatest movie ever, but none of the other movies on this list are either so who cares? Is the movie a little cheesy and hard to follow sometimes? Maybe, possibly, yes. But is it a fun action movie with iconic video game characters? Absouletly.
Where to Watch Mortal Kombat: Another one that sadly you can't stream, but it's also available for purchase online. - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) - Featured Guest: Brian Tochi, Ernie Reyes Jr., Francois Chau, Kenn Scott, Robbie Rist
The first of many movies made of the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, this one is a cheesy movie clearly made for a younger audience in the 90s. Before you judge, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Get some friends together and enjoy laughing over the slapstick action like you're hosting a little Mystery Science Theatre 3000.
Where to Watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Once again, this one hasn't made it to streaming at the time of writing this. Luckily you can find it online for cheap. - Terrifier (2016) - Featured Guest: David Howard Thornton, Samantha Scaffidi
The Terrifier movie franchise and it's killer antagonist Art the Clown have become modern horror icons since the first slahser dropped in 2016. When it comes to slasher movies Art the Clown has gripped audiences with brutal, yet slapstick gore and violence. As a trilogy of movies so far, the franchise hasn't met the fate of sequels that tank in ratings, unlike many horror franchises before it.
Where to Watch Terrifier: Tubi, PlutoTV, Roku Channel - Terrifier 2 (2022) -
Surprise, Art the Clown is back in the highest rated movie of the franchise. The first movie was made with a budget of less than $60k, which is part of why the run time clocked in at only an hour and 25 minutes. The second movie gave the studio a much bigger budget to work with, and it shows in the ratings and fan reaction.
Where to Watch Terrifier 2: Peacock, PlutoTV - Terrifier 3 (2024) -
Is it that surprising? I thought about listing the other two Ninja Turtles movies but the trilogy of Terrifier movies is a worthy watch for any horror fans not scared of a little bloodshed.
Where to Watch Terrifier 3: Amazon Prime Video, Roku Channel
