Audra McDonald Announces She’s Pregnant…At 45!

Multiple Tony winner Audra McDonald surprised everyone Tuesday when she announced that she and husband Will Swenson are expecting their first child.

And here's the kicker...she's having her first child at 45!

"Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead to pregnancy?" she posted on Twitter. "Will and I are completely surprised – and elated – to be expecting a new addition to our family. I am so very grateful to everyone in New York and London for allowing me to rearrange my schedule to accommodate this little miracle. While I'm disappointed I have to postpone my West End debut in Lady Day, I'm glad I'll be able to spend a little more time in Shuffle Along this summer."

She later added, "In other news...I may have had 3 croissants today."

McDonald is currently starring in the revival of the musical Shuffle Along, or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

McDonald and Swenson met when they co-starred in the Broadway revival of 110 in the Shade in 2007. They began dating in 2010 and got married in October 2012.
