Barksdale Air Force Base has been a part of the landscape of the Shreveport-Bossier City, LA area since the 1930s and one of the coolest things they do for the community is opening up the base for the Defenders of Liberty Air Show.

Did you know that Barksdale was originally called Barksdale Airfield and that when it was built in 1933, it was the largest airfield in the world at just over 22,000 acres? To this day, Barksdale Air Force Base is a key part of our nation's defense strategy and serves as the headquarters of the Air Force Global Strike Command, the historic 8th Air Force, the 2nd Bomb Wing, and the 307th Bomb Wing.

Since Barksdale is such a key part of our country's defense program, the base isn't open to civilians without sponsorship by someone with base privileges. However, Barksdale throws open the gates to all for the Defenders of Freedom Air Show.

When is the next Defenders of Freedom Air Show at Barksdale Air Force Base?

The next Defenders of Freedom Air Show is coming to Barksdale Air Force Base on March 29-30, 2025, and the show will feature The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

As an Air Force brat, I loved going to the Air Show as a child. What are your favorite Air Show memories from Barksdale AFB? Hit me up by sending me a message using our app or email me at erin.bristol@townsquaremedia.com.
