The dog was left to die in a storage unit on Youree Drive, but was rescued in horrible condition and was near death.  The dog's original owner, Gabriel Lee was sentenced to 8 months in prison for animal cruelty charges.

Current owners Bo and Ronda Spataro adopted Braveheart and nursed him back to health. He was one of the most famous dogs in the region and served as Grand Marshall Barkus and Meoux Parade in 2015.  Braveheart made appearances at animal events across the region.

The Spataro's posted on Facebook that they had to let him go.

We are all heartbroken and will never completely get over it but we want you all to remember the happy, awesome pup he was, even after facing such abuse early on. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and do something to help another animal in need in his memory.

Braveheart has been sick over the past year and after exploratory surgery and no improvement, the family agreed with doctors and decided it was in his best interest to let him go.
