A New Lease on Life for Bossier City’s Longtime Eyesore
Shreveport might have it the worst when it comes to massive eyesores, but one of Bossier City's oldest vacant buildings might finally get a makeover. The former General Dynamics office has sat empty since 2023. The for-sale sign sitting outside hasn't found any buyers until now. The Bossier City Council and the Bossier Council on Aging are looking to put $4M into revitalizing the building for a new senior center.
The 301 Bentoan Road Revitalization Plan
The Bossier City Council approved Mayor Tommy Chandler's purchase of the eyesore at 301 Benton Road to give the BCOA a new home. The budget for the purchase has a maximum of $4 million. The BCOA will be using this renovated space to create new offices and a large space for a senior center. Bossier City itself is covering the purchase of the building and additionally putting $100,000 into renovations for the building.
The path forward still has a few road bumps. The City's agreement with BCOA still needs final approval from both groups. The BCOA's board is scheduled to meet on September 19th to go over the latest plans. After that, the City Council will have its last vote on Tuesday, September 23rd.
Is Bossier City Getting a New Senior Center?
Assuming the deal goes through, the real work of transforming the eyesore on a busy intersection can begin. This project is more than just a renovation; it's a commitment to improving the lives of Bossier's seniors. With the BCOA set to gain a modern and centralized hub, they can expand critical services like senior transport and wellness programs.
