According to news sources, there will be 44 license plate readers installed in major road ways with intent to find uninsured vehicles.

Traffic Lights and camera

From what I can understand about these creepy cameras is that they will take a picture of every driver going through intersections. The police department will then investigate if the vehicles driving through have insurance or not. They will then send a citation. If you provide the proper information proving that you have insurance the citation will then be waived. However, If there is no proof of insurance there will be a warrant for the owner of the vehicle within 45 days.

This doesn't make since to me. I thought traffic cameras where illegal. Maybe I am wrong, but I do know that there was a recent law stating that they must have signs identifying red light intersections, according to NOLA Times.

Apparently this is supposed to be a less invasive way of fight the increasing number of uninsured vehicles on the road, but I don't think so.
