‘Captain Marvel’ Is Set in the ‘90s, Will Face-off With the Skrulls
I sure hope Brie Larson has a pair of denim overalls and “Jagged Little Pill” on CD because Captain Marvel is headed to the ‘90s.
During Marvel’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday, the studio announced some new plot details for the upcoming female-led superhero film, revealing it will be set in the ‘90s (hence, overalls and Alanis Morissette). The film will be a prequel of sorts to the MCU and take place before the events of the first Iron Man. Which only has me absolutely ecstatic about how killer the soundtrack is going to be – please give me an action sequence set to some Ace of Base and La Bouche and you’ve more than guaranteed my ticket Marvel.
The other big news was who Carol Danvers will be facing in the upcoming movie. The Skrulls will be the big bad in Captain Marvel, an alien race of green-skinned shape-shifters. During the panel the studio debuted some new concept art of the villainous aliens and Captain Marvel in action:
We already knew Sam Jackson’s Nick Fury would be back, but tonight’s news revealed he’ll have both his eyes this time.
Captain Marvel will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson) with a script from Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve and hit theaters in March of 2019. Now we just need to know if the movie will feature any Lisa Frank notebooks and gel pens.
