SHREVEPORT, LA — Centenary’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse and guest Director Heather Peak-Hooper will present William Shakespeare's As You Like It  Thursday, October 2, to Saturday, October 4, at 8 p.m. and a matinee performance Sunday, October 5, at 2 p.m.

As You Like It tells the story of Rosalind, the daughter of the banished Duke Senior who has been raised in the court of her uncle, Duke Frederick, with her cousin Celia. She falls in love with a young man named Orlando, but before she has an opportunity to declare her feelings, she is banished by Duke Frederick, who threatens death if she comes near the court again. Celia, being Rosalind's best friend, goes with Rosalind, who is disguised as a boy named Ganymede, and the court’s fool Touchstone to the Forest of Arden. Upon their arrival in the forest, they happen upon Orlando and his manservant, who are fleeing the wrath of Orlando's eldest brother. What follows is an elaborate scheme devised by the cross-dressing Rosalind to find out the verity of Orlando's supposed passion for her, and to further capture his heart, through the witty and mischievous persona of Ganymede.

Peak-Hooper is a Centenary alumna and currently serves as the Captain Shreve High School drama teacher. After the opening night performance on Thursday, October 2, there will be a “Talk-Back” session with Peak-Hooper and Centenary English professor Steve Shelburne, followed by a reception in the Playhouse lobby.

The production will be presented in blackbox on the stage floor; seating is limited. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show. Tickets can be purchased at the door and online; cost is $15 for adults; $10 for seniors, alumni, and military; and $5 for non-Centenary students.
