An elderly Shreveport woman was saved from her burning Broadmoor home this morning by an electrician working nearby.

Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Arthur Avenue just after 8:15 to a report of a house fire with the occupant still inside. Fire crews went to the side of the structure and found someone pulling the occupant out of the house.

According to a Shreveport Fire Department news release, the rescuer braved thick, black smoke and crawled to the victim's bedroom. He was able to locate the woman on the floor and drag her to safety.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Her rescuer was treated at the scene by EMS. The fire was under control shortly after 8:30. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
