The Financial Strain: Why Claire's is Closing Over 1,300 Stores
Claire's has now filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which gives the company a chance to restructure itself to maximize profits, which includes the closing of over 1,300 stores. The company filed for bankruptcy once before in 2018 and managed to scrape by for years after that while paying off $1.9 billion in debt. Claire's pointed to tariffs and online consumer trends as the culprits for a notable dip in revenue over the last few years.

The filing included a list of locations to be shuttered in the coming months, including the Mall St. Vincent location in Shreveport and the Pierre Bossier Mall location in Bossier City. Bloomberg reported that Claire's has a $500 million loan due in 2026, which could be fueling the choice to shut down several stores and shave some costs.
