Tom Hanks’ David Pumpkins Returns to ‘SNL’ for Crowded Rap Video
I don’t want to alarm anyone, but SNL’s David S. Pumpkins and Alec Baldwin’s Trump both debuted in the same season. I know! Things kind of took a turn after November 8, but Tom Hanks’ delightfully bizarre Halloween character debuted only two weeks prior, and now gets his very own Season 42 sendoff. Meet David S. Pimpkins!
Hanks of course appeared earlier in the finale to help induct host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into the Five-Timers Club, as well to accept the position of Johnson’s running mate in a 2020 bid for President. Still, later in the evening saw Kenan Thompson leading a pre-recorded rap video, the endless introductions of which eventually brought us a riff on Hanks’ “Haunted Elevator” favorite.
This is the first time since October we’ve seen Hanks in his Pumpkins – sorry – Pimpkins getup, though the skeleton twins briefly returned during the Mannequin Challenge promos for star Kristen Wiig in November. Now that Bobby Moynihan has left SNL behind, however, any future iterations of the sketch will need a new recruit.
You can watch the original David S. Pumpkins sketch below, check out more from Saturday’s finale, and stay tuned for new developments on Season 43.
