Dr. Disrespect is Hitting His Stride on YouTube
While we all have had a wild 2020, there's no doubt that streamer Dr. Disrespect's year has been one of the wildest yet.
For those unaware, Dr. Disrespect is a character-streamer who has rose to mega-popularity over the past five years or so. No video game streamer on the planet can come close to the production level that Dr. Disrespect puts out every single day. The truth is, he makes it look easy. 99.9999% of all video game streamers launch a stream then play a video game for 6+ hours. If you're the viewer, you see the game, and in one of the corners, you'll see the streamer in a small box. That's it, there's nothing more to it.
Dr. Disrespect, though, puts on a full-scale show day in and day out. It's so much more than a streamer playing a video game. When you tune in to watch the Doc, you're getting a performance, with onscreen production you'll never find anywhere else.
When Doc kicked off his 2020, he was arguably the most popular streamer on Twitch. Then, a few months later, he was permanently banned from the streaming service and not given a reason from the company. Imagine you work for years to become the face of a brand, and in a way, the face of an entire empire, for it all to be taken away in an instant.
I can't imagine what that feels like, but I'm glad to see the Doc rebound in an incredible way.
After going AWOL for a few months, Disrespect re-appeared on YouTube. He came back with a bang as well, after hiring a handful of graphic designers and 3D artists to make his arena seem bigger and better than ever. Still, it seemed in the beginning, Doc was getting used to his new home. On numerous occasions during his streams, he would mention how alone he felt, often comparing it to being on an island. The reason for this is that he can't stream with Twitch users, AKA everyone he's ever played with consistently.
A few months ago, however, the Doc picked up steam. He began partnering with Facebook streamer Z-Laner while playing COD: Warzone and I feel like it brought him back into his element. Also, last month Dr. Disrespect pulled off one of the coolest gaming partnerships I've ever seen. He became partners with Rogue Company, and the game features an entire map and player-skin in his honor.
He's truly at the top of the mountain, but really, only halfway up.
