The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office has made two arrests in connection with the Moss Bluff Elementary School shooting Monday.

According to the CPSO Facebook page, 50- year-old Michael Dugas, and his son, 17-year-old Jake Dugas were arrested after a younger son brought a loaded handgun to school accidentally injuring a fellow first grader.

According to investigators, Michael Dugas, the father of the first grader who brought the gun to school, admitted to owning the gun that was knowingly kept unsecured--without a lock or holster-- in a bedroom that his sons shared.

Detectives discovered an unlocked fireproof safe with keypad entry inside the bedroom closet that had no contents inside. Presumably, the fireproof safe could have been employed to safely store the firearm.

This morning the Sheriff's Office issued warrants for the father-and-son pair.

Michael Dugas turned himself in around 1:30 p.m. today. He faces charges including negligent injuring and improper supervision of a minor. His bond was set at $5,000.

Jake Dugas was arrested at his residence before 12 p.m. today. He has been charged with negligent injuring. His bond was set at $2,500.

The shooting victim, Gage Meche, is recovering after undergoing surgery for the gunshot wound to the abdomen.
