Kirk Cameron, best known as Mike Seaver on TV's Growing Pains, is in hot water for giving out some unsolicited marital advice.

The actor-turned-born-again Christian said in an interview with The Christian Post that wives should obey their husbands because "God's word" says so.

"Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband's lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband," he told the Post. "When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage."

He added, "A lot of people don't know that marriage comes with instructions. And, we find them right there in God's word."

Cameron's comments were met with a swift backlash from the Twitterverse. "I'll take marriage advice from a fundie Christian like Kirk Cameron the same day I take financial advice from Nicholas Cage," read one tweet.

Another user posted, "Dear #KirkCameron - when a wife or husband is being abused, they shouldn't honor or submit to their spouse - they should get out."

Cameron, now 45, is married to actress Chelsea Noble. The two are the parents of six children.
