Give for Good Day 2020 Sets New Record
I can't tell you how happy this news makes me. The results of this year's Give for Good Day prove once again that Shreveport/Bossier City is a community that cares for its own.
According to preliminary numbers from The Community Foundation, yesterday’s annual Give for Good Day raised $1,959,096 through 10,402 donations to 239 local organizations. That figure beats last year's total of just over $1.8 million raised through 4,251 donations. Truly, the generosity of our community is incredible. Here we are in the middle of a pandemic with record unemployment and folks are still willing to dig deep to help the organizations that make Shreveport/Bossier so unique.
If you're not familiar with the Community Foundation of North Louisiana, it's a philanthropy that was established in 1961 with the express purpose of bringing people and resources together to solve problems and enhance our community. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $80 million in grants to local non-profit organizations.
There are two ways to donate during Give for Good. You can either select the specific organization you would like to support or your donation can go into the 'Lagniappe' fund, which will then be distributed to the participating groups. The big winner yesterday was Holy Angels, raising $171,479. I've listed the other ten organizations from the Give for Good Leaderboard below:
Holy Angels $171,479
Prize Foundation $93,538
Southfield School $85,936
Common Ground Community, Inc. $83,635
Praise Academy at Lakeside $82,520
Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana $57,839
Providence House $52,317
LSU Health Sciences Foundation $38,605
Shreveport Symphony, Inc. $37,717
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul $33,102
Congratulations to all of the organizations involved on another successful day of giving. Now, we have to keep it up and make sure these agencies make it through this blasted pandemic!
