Just days after Louisiana voters shut down four Republican state amendments, Louisina's Governor Jeff Landry has pulled a page from the Elon Musk and DOGE playbook to save state spending.

Rejected Amendment Leaves Hole For Funding

Amendment two of the four that were proposed, was a further restructuring of Louisiana's state tax system. Late last year Governor Landry changed parts of the state tax system, and this amendment would have lowered the state income tax.

That amendment failed, which is why Governor Landry has a new plan moving forward, pulling a move we saw recently from the chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency.

Jeff Landry Learns From Elon Musk

Elon Musk's DOGE has been working for months to cut any excess or fraudulent government spending, controversially doing so. Among one of the most controversial moves he made early on was to call for government agencies to be placed on a hiring freeze, an attempt to slow spending to help the federal government save.

Jeff Landry has now done the same for the State of Louisiana to "ensure the long-term fiscal health of Louisiana."  Governor Landry says this "temporary" hiring freeze should help cut back on the state's spending, which he says comes to $20 million a year.

The order is for state departments and offices, but local governments like cities will be unaffected by the freeze.

Landry didn't give a timeline on how long the freeze should last for other than stating the freeze would be temporary.
