High Levels Of Fecal Matter Reported Around Galveston Beach
KHOU reports on Saturday officials tested the waters off Galveston Beach and have reported clusters of high level fecal matter. They also said that this is not unusual and no illnesses have been reported so far. Stewart Beach showed the highest level of fecal matter from those tested. The High Levels appear to be in clusters and not throughout the entire beach area.
Officials say that the fecal matter comes mostly from runoff from sewage, septic tanks, birds, humans and others. The beaches are still safe to swim in and areas that have tested higher are marked with orange warning flags which swimmers are encouraged to move away from.
Waters off the beach are tested multiple times a week and so far this year no one spot has tested consistently with high levels. Officials still say don't drink the water and shower after swimming.
