We all know it is going to be very cold in Shreveport over the next few days. It doesn't matter what weather jargon you use. We'll be in the "deep freeze", or have an "arctic blast" or a "cold snap" or whatever else those weather folks say.

Low temps near 10 degrees Thursday night will be miserable. There's no easy way to say it. And this is not great news for the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. But I am going to tell you now, years from now, people will want to say they were at this game. We could have kickoff at 2pm with the coldest ever temperature for our bowl game. You could brave the cold and hang out for the first quarter and take a few selfies and you will be one of the ones who can actually say "you were there."

How many people can honestly say they were at the game the year of the big snow storm? This will be another one of those games we will remember forever.

We asked Richard Lewelling with the Weather Channel to break down the temps for the game:

Pregame:

He says for all of the pre-game activities and tailgating, the temperature in Shreveport will be 17 degrees with a wind chill of 5.

Kickoff:

By 2pm, the temp will climb a little to 22 degrees with a wind chill of 9.

Halftime:

At halftime, he says the temperature in Shreveport will be 24 degrees with a wind chill of 11.

4th Quarter:

By the end of the game, the temp will dip a little to 22 degrees with a wind chill of 11.

The experts say you should prepare for this game like you would if you were going to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Dress in layers, lots of layers. You should wear long johns, extra thick socks and maybe even 2 pair of socks. heavy pants and lots of shirts, sweaters and a heavy jacket. And don't forget to wear a hat. But you should also bring blankets with you to the game. No propane heaters will be allowed, but you can bundle up good in extra blankets.

I will be waiting to see if any crazy guy drinks enough alcohol to actually go shirtless during the game. I'm betting that will not happen at this years Independence Bowl.

High Temps For Every Independence Bowl In History

We looked at the historic high temperatures for the date of each Independence Bowl in Shreveport. The temps were the daily recorded highs at the Shreveport Regional Airport, not the exact temps at kickoff of the game.
