Tropical storms and hurricanes are nothing new for Louisiana, but here in Shreveport, we often experience only a fraction of the intense weather they bring near the Gulf. Currently, a weather system is moving over the Gulf Coast and has a 40% chance of developing into a full-fledged tropical storm. If the system gets stronger, some meteorologists expect it to head straight for Shreveport.

Invest 93L: Will A Disorganized System Become Hurricane Dexter?

"Invest 93L" is the name the National Hurricane Center gave to the weather system that could turn into a tropical storm, and you better believe weathermen and women across the Gulf Coast are investing all of their time into watching what happens next. It was more likely to turn into a tropical storm when the weather system first came onto radars, but it has since lost some power and become disorganized.

Even with the storm now having lost steam, the Gulf Coast conditions there's a chance for smaller storms to consolidate with the system and grow Invest 93L into a fully fledged tropical storm. According to some meteorologists, there's a 40% chance over the next few days of seeing the system evolve into a tropical weather event.

The next hurricane in the 2025 season will be named Dexter, so how likely is it that Hurricane Dexter is born and heads straight for Shreveport?

Is Shreveport Still in Invest 93L's Path?

Louisiana is in the crosshairs of Invest 93L even if it doesn't turn into a tropical depression. The rain will arrive late in southeastern Louisiana late Thursday, and could bring up to 10 inches of rain to the state over the next few days.

Before the storm lost momentum, meteorologists across the South started mapping out projections for where the storm could likely go, and a few of those maps placed Shreveport near the end of at least a few possible paths. Could Hurricane Dexter be knocking on Louisiana's doors right now?

In the wake of the tragedy in Central Texas this summer, emergency preparedness should be at the forefront of everyone's mind. The Louisiana State Police have instructions and advice available on their website to make sure the entire Bayou State is prepared for nasty weather.
