It's been a LONG time since we've seen any decent amount of rainfall in Shreveport. I don't even remember the last we got any actual rain that lasted longer than 5 minutes. It's been bone dry and unseasonably warm. Most of North Louisiana and East Texas is under a burn ban. In short: It's been bad on precipitation front.

If you're into the whole rain thing, the last month or so has not been great. But, that may be changing very, very soon.

Is Rain Finally in the Forecast for Shreveport?

According to Weather.com, severe storms could be on the way to Shreveport this weekend along with some cooler temps. It would be nice if we just got some normal rain showers, but unfortunately for us, that doesn't seem to be the case.

According to the forecast, we're facing scattered Thunderstorms that could get pretty severe. Storms are projected to hit around Saturday afternoon and last into Sunday morning. Hopefully, we'll be able to avoid anything too crazy and get some much needed precipitation.

Cooler Temps Are On the Way to Shreveport

Not only has it been super dry lately, but it's also been unseasonably warm. It's the middle of October and the highs have still been hovering around the 90s. But, after this weekend's showers, things are going to cool off a bit.

Now, don't start breaking out the flannel and hoodies just yet. When I say temps are going to cool off - I mean they're going to go from highs near 90 down to highs around 77. So, not cold by any means but a much needed break from the heat.

What to Do If the Power Goes Out in Shreveport-Bossier

Look, I get it, nobody likes when the power goes out. But it does happen...especially when severe weather rolls around.

Whether it's caused by a storm, SWEPCO taking preventative measures or whatever. It's inconvenient, it sucks and it can cause issues. But, when severe weather is potentially coming to the general area, it's always good to be prepared just in case.

Charge up your phones and essential electronic devices before the power does go out. Gather up essential items like nonperishable food, bottles of water, flashlights, any medications you might need, pet supplies and anything else you can think of that you may need during an extended power outage. It's easier to have that stuff handy before the storm, instead of fumbling around in the dark looking for this stuff.

If the power does goes out, the first and most important thing, DON'T GO NEAR ANY DOWNED POWERLINES. The power may be out at your house, but you don't want to find out the hard way that line is live.

The next thing is a list of stuff to do to keep you and your stuff safe:

  • Keep freezers & refrigerators closed. You don't want your food to spoil and it's really not a good way to cool your house in the event of an outage.
  • If you have a generator, make sure you keep it outdoors and away from windows/doors. You'd be surprised by how many people accidentally poison themselves annually because of this.
  • Disconnect appliances/electronics not connected to a surge protector. When the power comes back on, it could fry your electronic devices.
