DOTD Announces Two Week Closure Of I-20 Westbound Exit To Bert Kouns
When the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the May 18 start of a project on the I-20 westbound exit ramp to LA 526 (Exit 8 - Bert Kouns Industrial Loop) they warned us there would be times traffic would be extremely challenging, and it would appear that the next couple of weeks will prove them true to their word.
In a notice to all drivers, DOTD writes that beginning this coming Monday, August 10, the I-20 westbound off-ramp to LA 526 will be closed as part of this ongoing project to improve safety and traffic flow at the interchange.
The I-20 Westbound Exit Ramp To LA 526 Will Be Closed Approximately Two Weeks
The exit ramp is scheduled to remain closed for two weeks and, weather permitting, will reopen on Monday, August 24th. Apparently, this full closure is necessary to allow the contractor to perform concrete pavement repairs on the existing ramp.
The project involves extending the deceleration lane to allow for additional vehicle storage, which improves safety by allowing extra space for exiting vehicles to move from the higher speed interstate travel lanes.

Motorists should plan for additional congestion in this area, particularly during peak travel times.
This Will Be A Total Ramp Closure And All Vehicles Will Need To Use Alternate Route
This will be a total ramp closure and all vehicles will need to utilize an alternate route. Appropriate detour signage will be in place. Westbound vehicles on I-20 will be detoured via US 80 (Greenwood Rd) and back to LA 526 (Bert Kouns).
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.
