Fire Marshal Issues Burn Ban For Whole State Of Louisiana

DeSoto Parish and Vernon Parish in north Louisiana were the first parishes locally to recognize the danger this heat and dry conditions are causing.

On July 26, DeSoto Parish declared a burn ban, which outlaws any form of outdoor burning, for the entire parish.

Then, late last week, Caddo Parish declared a similar burn ban, which we just told you about yesterday.

We also mentioned that unless we received any substantial rainfall in the very near future, it was likely that more parishes would follow suit and ban any outdoor burning.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal Made The Call For The Whole State

Apparently the Louisiana State Fire Marshal wasn't about to sit around and wait for parishes to take the initiative to place burn bans in their own parishes and has just issued a statewide burn ban until further notice.

Citing the extreme heat and dry conditions, the Fire Marshall says that all outdoor burning should be avoided. There are certain exceptions to this declaration including private burning pre-approved by a local fire department.

There Are A Few Exceptions To The Statewide Mandate

In an article from wdsu.com, we also learn that the State Fire Marshal has made an exception that includes barbecue grills, fire pits and small campfires for brief, recreational purposes.

Those caught violating the statewide burn ban order could face criminal or civil charges and any such penalties associated with those charges.
