Back-to-school season has officially kicked off across Bossier and DeSoto Parishes, with Webster and Caddo Parishes right behind them. While the kids are settling into their new classrooms, the rest of us are left navigating the chaos outside, and it’s got a lot of local parents asking: Did everyone completely forget how the school car line works over the summer?

I’ve had the pleasure, or maybe I should say the curse, of sitting in line waiting to pick up my nieces, and let’s just say it doesn't take a genius to keep things moving. You don't need a degree in rocket science to navigate pickup duty, but you definitely have to stay alert!

We reached out to local parents to find out the biggest unwritten rules of the drop-off and pick-up zones, and the responses came in hot. Top of the list? Have your kids ready to roll! The car line is not the place to finish tying shoes, eating breakfast, or searching for backpacks. When it’s go-time, they should be ready to jump out.

A few other huge pet peeves that made the list:

Drivers having a full-on staring contest with the teacher signaling them to pull forward.

Leaving massive, unnecessary gaps between cars while waiting.

People ignoring the designated route entirely just to cut in line.

At the end of the day, we all just want our kids to stay safe and for the line to move as quickly as possible. Following both the official guidelines and basic car line etiquette makes a world of difference.
