Xanax is used by doctors to help their patients who suffer from panic disorders and anxiety. It's estimated that more than 17 million prescriptions for that medication are active in the United States today.

How Do I Know if My Prescription Xanax Has Been Recalled?
The recalled products are described in the FDA notice this way:
Xanax XR, alprazolam, extended-release tablets, 3 mg, 60 Tablets bottles, Rx only, Distributed by: Viatris Specialty LLC, Morgantown, WV 06506, U.S.A, Made in Ireland, NDC 58151-506-91
The issue with the medication comes from a specific "Lot" of the pills that were found not to dissolve properly. The failed dissolution test suggests that patients could be at risk if not enough of the medication is dissolved promptly so that it may be introduced into the body after swallowing the pill.
The FDA has classified this recall as a Class II recall. That means that the product may cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote".
Recalled Xanax Has Been In Circulation for a Long Time - Check These Dates
To see if your medication is included in the FDA advisory, you'll want to look for Lot Number 8177156 and an expiration date of February 28, 2027. The tricky part of this recall might be the wide range of distribution times for this medication.
The recalled Xanax could have been prescribed to you anytime between August 27, 2024, and May 29, 2025. This means the recalled tablets have been in circulation for many months.
