Jay Pulls Off Amazing Valentine’s Day Surprise
Let me start by saying I'm only sharing this to let other guys know that even when everything goes wrong, you can still find a way to deliver! This year for Valentine's Day, everything was crumbling, but I stuck to the plan and pulled it off!
About a week ago, I decided I would attempt to recreate one of my first date's with Kaci. When we first started dating quite a while ago, I lived in downtown Shreveport and was frequently broke. So trying to woo a woman with my income at the time was tough, so I had to get creative. One day in particular, I knew I didn't have enough money for an actual date, so I made some sandwiches and grabbed some blankets and told Kaci to meet me near the amphitheater in downtown Shreveport. The date went well and Kaci and I have been together ever since!
So this week for Valentine's Day, I wanted to recreate that date in a more romantic way. I invested pretty much all of my V-Day budget on this romantic picnic, so yesterday began crumbling quickly once I looked at the weather forecast. Also, who the heck decided to make V-Day fall on the day before payday?? Not cool!
100% chance of rain for several hours in the Ark-La-Tex certainly didn't bode well for my plans.
I was scrambling. Ask anyone I saw yesterday, I was like a man waiting on death row. I knew if I didn't somehow pull off a great Valentine's Day surprise that I had been teasing for days, I would be in the doghouse until next year.
Around noon, I drove to downtown Shreveport in the pouring rain to try to find any covered space I could use for this romantic picnic. Right off the bat, I liked the idea of using one of the staging areas at Festival Plaza. Unfortunately their gates close at 5:00 PM and I certainly didn't want to get kicked out midway through our little date.
So I drove down to the newly remodeled amphitheater in downtown to see if the new covered space would be dry enough. Sadly, it was completely drenched.
I left feeling beaten and demoralized, surely a few hours away from a certain death whenever my big night officially crumbled to pieces. By this time, I had to be on the air, and was live until 7:00 PM.
I was screwed. Earlier in the day, before the weather came in, I hid noted around the house for Kaci to read every thirty minutes, until she was ready to leave, then she'd read the final note at 7:00 PM to tell her where to go. So 7:00 PM rolls around and she calls, and I tel her to just come to downtown and we'll figure it out.
Once I arrived with Outback in tow to downtown Shreveport, I noticed quickly my prayers were indeed answered.
The unbelievably scenic, remodeled amphitheater was completely dried up! Kaci hadn't arrived yet, so I quickly went to work!
By the time she arrived, I had just finished setting up and everything went off as if it was perfectly planned and executed. It was the longest, roller-coaster day of my life, but it turned out wonderful.
Hopefully next year goes a little smoother!
