Lawmakers Consider Letting Louisiana School Kids Use Sunscreen
Nola reports that Louisiana lawmakers approved House Bill 412 yesterday after a 30 minute debate. 13 representatives in total debated the bill that would allow kids in Louisiana schools use sunscreen to avoid the dangers of skin cancer during recess, outdoor Physical Education, and field trips. The new rules would also allow school staff to help apply the sunscreen. It was this point, along with a strange concern for drugs that might find their way into your kids Coppertone, that the lone hold out said her peace. Listen closely to the comments of Rep. Patricia Haynes Smith, D-Baton Rouge concerning sexual abuse charges and school liability.
The conversation also included other strange twists and turns, including questions about people that may want to make their own sunscreen. Do people really do that?
The next step for the bill comes when the discussion makes it's way to the full house.
