Lecrae Shows a Different Side on “Blessings”
Lecrae is one of the best rappers in the game right now. The Houston native is back with new music, dropping "Blessings," which is produced by Pluss & Mike WiLL Made-It. The track is the first single from Lecrae's forthcoming album.
He grabs Ty Dolla $ign for the assist on the trap-influenced record. "Count it up, count it up, count it up/Line 'em up, line 'em up, line 'em up/Swear the sun shinin' on me in my huddle/No matter the trouble surroundin' us/They don't see that it's a lot of us/Everybody move anonymous," raps Lecrae.
He spoke about how he wanted to initially change the title of the song because Chance The Rapper had a record with the same title.
“We already had the song in the can. I remember because we were actually working out here and we had the song in the can and then Chance’s project came out and I was like, ‘Dang,’” he says. “But it was like, man, we could have called it ‘Count It Up,’ or something like that, but I felt like it took away from that whole moment, so it was kinda like, man, it’s all love. A good song, everybody you move on. I’m just gonna troll America.”
The Reach Records MC released his breakout LP, Anomaly, in 2014. The effort debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and also earned him the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song Grammy Award for the song "Messengers" in 2015. He went on to sign with Columbia Records in May in a partnership with Reach Records.
