Yesterday afternoon, I got an email that said "Welcome to Delta Utilities Louisiana". And, to be perfectly honest, I just wrote it off as SPAM. I get countless emails a day saying I owe somebody money or whatever.

However, as it turns out, this is an email I should have paid more attention to. Because this morning CenterPoint Energy officially announced that they have been sold and Delta Utilities well now be providing service for thousands of customers in Louisiana & Mississippi.

What does that mean for us? Here's what we know so far.

CenterPoint Energy Sells Louisiana Facilities

According to several reports and a statement from CenterPoint themselves, CenterPoint Energy has been sold to Bernhard Capital Partners and that service will now be provided by Delta Utilities. The sale included roughly 12,000 miles of pipeline through Louisiana & Mississippi and will impact around 380,000 customers.

CenterPoint said they will work with Delta Utilities to help provide a smooth transition in service for all the impact customers.

Who Is Delta Utilities and What Do Us Customers Need to Know?

Delta Utilities is a Louisiana company and is headquartered in New Orleans. So they got that going for them.

And, according to the email they sent yesterday that I completely ignored, Delta says that all service will continue without interruption and no action required from customers. So, if you're worried you might lose your gas, you have nothing to worry about right now.

In the email, Delta outlined some key information that customers NEED to know about the transition:

  • Delta Utilities is your natural gas provider
  • Your natural gas service continues automatically — no action is needed
  • Your rates for natural gas service remain the same
  • Your account number stays the same

Is There Any Change to How You Pay Your Bill With Delta?

The two biggest question I had about all this were: is my bill going up? And how do I pay my bill? As mentioned above, Delta says that your natural gas rates will still stay the same. So, that answers one question.

But, is there any change to how you pay? I know from experience usually if a bank or company gets bought out, you have to go to a different website or whatever to pay your bill. Well, according to Delta, all that's going to stay the same for the immediate future as well.

Here's what Delta says about the bill paying process:

  • Continue paying your bill exactly as you have been
  • CenterPoint Energy will process payments on behalf of Delta Utilities
  • Use your existing CenterPoint Energy account number for all transactions
  • The online payment portal remains accessible through CenterPoint Energy

Delta said numerous times in statements and emails that they're working closely with CenterPoint to make sure this is as convenient and painless for customers. So from what I can tell, other than the name changing on the bill, everything else is staying the same. At least for the immediate future.
