There have been some minor changes to the Louisiana driver's license.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles said the new licenses will look a lot like the old licenses, but will have more security features added in an effort to reduce tampering.

Some of the changes include a tri-color overlay, multi-colored fine line printing, and a "ghost" image of the driver's photo.

Drivers do not need to get their licenses updated and new licenses will start featuring the changes no later than this May.

“We are always looking for ways to better protect Louisiana citizens from fraud and identity theft,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, Department of Public Safety Deputy Secretary.  “Enhancing the security features of a Louisiana driver license and identification card reduces the possibility of criminals being able to counterfeit these documents that have become the national standard for identification.”

Officials expect it to take four years for the complete phase out to take place.
