LSU Is Looking For Marijuana Farmers
LSU is looking for farmers to grow medical marijuana for the state. The school is currently accepting applications from contractors to grow and pay for the operation with is expected to cost around $10 Million.
LSU professor Ted Gauthier who is helping run the project said there's been a lot of interest from people in the state as well as out of state and expects to have the final list to choose from narrowed down to 10 contractors soon. The first crop is expected to be ready by the end of this year.
There's a lot of rules that go along with the new program including LSU students are not allowed to participate, the plants must be grown indoors within East Baton Rouge Parish and the location of the facility will not be released to the public.
Governor Edwards signed a bill in 2016 allowing medical marijuana in Louisiana but until a state sanctioned grower is selected patients needing the plant have to wait.
