City of Shreveport to Hold National Night Out Kickoff Party
Just like everything else, we do things a little differently here in Shreveport.
National Night Out will be celebrated coast to coast this Tuesday, August 2, 2022, but not here in Shreveport.
Why doesn't Shreveport celebrate National Night Out when the rest of the country does? That's easy! It's because it's too stinkin' hot! National Night Out is the first Tuesday in August for the rest of the country, but for states like Texas and other select areas like ours, we gather on the first Tuesday in October. This year's festivities will fall on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
What's the purpose of National Night Out?
According to the National Night Out website, it's 'an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.' In short, it's a great way to get out, eat some good food, and break bread with your neighbors. Statistics show that a close-knit neighborhood is a safer neighborhood.
Sounds good, right? However, you need to register your neighborhood's National Night Out party and you can do that this Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Shreveport. That's when the Shreveport Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Bureau is holding their special early registration kickoff party at A.B. Palmer Community Center from 5 - 7 pm. Attendees will get to partake in free food and drinks, enjoy live music, have their faces painted, play games, and more. Also, when you register this Thursday, your party will be placed in a drawing. The winning party will be catered by Silver Star!
Shreveport residents are also being asked to vote on a theme for this year's National Night Out revelry by visiting ShreveportLA.gov by 5 pm Wednesday, July 27, 2022. The winning theme will be announced Thursday at the early registration kickoff party. Here are the proposed themes:
- Rock the Block
- A Nite to Unite
- Unity in the Community
- Better Together
We can't think of a better way to help bring our community together, so get ready to party, Shreveport!
