On Friday, students across the nation walked out of class to protest the long string mass shootings plaguing our country.  Unfortunately, one protest against violence ended in the death of a San Antonio middle school student.  According to News 4 San Antonio, 11 year old Jonathan Benko was crossing the street with his friends at around 10:30 in the morning in order to reach a field across the street from Parkland Middle School when he was struck by a vehicle.

According to KENS5, Jonathan wasn't intent on joining students that were gathering at the football field to make their stand against violence in schools.  He was allegedly travelling with a group of 11-14 kids that had jumped a wall and left school campus during the walkout.  Unfortunately, that's when the 6th grader was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by 61 year old Jesus Diaz.  The boy was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

At this time no charges have been filed, although officials say that the matter is still under investigation.  The hospital has set up a donation site that benefits a memorial fund for his family.
