Shreveport's Loyoal College Prep has their first every player drafted in the MLB Draft today. The New York Mets have selected Nathan Jones out of Northwestern State in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

In addition to being Loyal's first ever player drafted, he was the first Southland Conference player drafted in this year's draft, and is the highest selected NSU Demon since Mason Melotakis was drafted in the second round in 2012.

This also marks the second year in a row that an NSU Demon was selected in the MLB Draft. Last year both David Fry and Kwan Adkins were selected. Fry went in the seventh round to the Milwaukee Brewers, and Adkins was taken in the 30th round by the San Francisco Giants.

Jones was drafted by the franchise that already features Parkway High School alum, and former Centenary Gent, Seth Lugo.
