In light of the string of recent brawls captured on viral videos in our area, I thought I would write an open letter to those who have taken part.

It's sad when the biggest stories of the day revolve around fights and brawls in public in Shreveport-Bossier. Within the last two weeks, we've seena  brawl in downtown Shreveport, a brawl in Pierre Bossier Mall, and a brawl outside of Byrd High School.

So, on behalf of Shreveport-Bossier, I'm writing this open letter to those who have taken part in these fights, as well as those who might in the future.

Dear Shreveport Fighters,

I understand sometimes you get angry. I get angry too. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that 100% of our Ark-La-Tex population gets angry on a daily basis. It happens to all of us. Having said that, not all of us are fighting each other in public. I believe we're better than that.

We're better than our differences, and there's nothing we as capable, functional human beings can't get past without extreme violence.

Our city and area as a whole can use some healing. Weekly fights so extreme they get thousands of views on social media certainly isn't what we need. Not now, not ever.

Please, until you sign your mega million dollar UFC deal, keep the fighting to the professionals. Or, at the very least, let's keep it out of the public eye.

Sincerely,

Everyone in town
