A Power Company Has a 20-Degree Rule That Will Ruin Anyone's Day.

The 20-degree rule means that if it is 100 degrees out, you should set your thermostat at 80 degrees. Anthony Cook with Alabama Power claims that your AC unit can only bring your home's temperature to 20 degrees from the outside temperature. The 20-degree rule is based on industry standards for the way most air conditioners are designed. Anthony Cook also claims that running fans will help circulate air coming from the unit and recommends closing the blinds to bring the temperature inside down.
