Process to Hire a New Police Chief Moves Forward

Eight people have applied and have been approved to move forward in the hiring process to be Shreveport's next Chief of Police. On May 23rd, all 8 applicants will take a civil service exam. To stay in contention for the post, candidates must score at least a 75% on the exam.

The men and women vying for the post are: Ben Raymond, Marcus Mitchell, Michael Carter, Wayne Smith, Kevin Strickland, Jason Frazier, Janice Dailey and Tedris Smith.

Mayor Adrian Perkins has created a 7 person committee comprised of law enforcement officials, lawyers and elected officials to interview the candidates. Perkins says the job of Chief is a high profile position and he wants the best man or woman on the job. Perkins also wants the public to have input in the process.
