The Shreveport City Council is finally whole once again!

Let me take you back to November of 2021 when Shreveport City Council member James Flurry resigned from his post. Flurry had recently moved out of the district he was supposed to represent, making him ineligible to serve.  He resigned, leaving the task of replacing him to the remaining 6 members of the council to replace him.

All the council had to do is agree to a candidate that lives in Shreveport's District E to take the open seat.  When it came down to the final two candidates, the council was left with the task of picking between Durwood Hendricks and Matthew Nicholas.  Apparently, that was too big of a task.

When the council became deadlocked 3 to 3 (which is the reason there are supposed to be 7 members of the council) in voting for Flurry's replacement it became clear that someone else would have to step in to pick Shreveport's 7th City Council member.  According to the rules, that person is none other than Louisiana's Governor: John Bel Edwards.

According to the report from KSLA, Our Governor has fulfilled his obligation to fill the empty seat the other council members couldn't. Governor John Bel Edwards has selected Alan Duval Jackson Jr. to be the 7th member of Shreveport's City Council. Jackson's appointment was effective immediately.
