Heat Advisory in Effect for Shreveport on 4th of July

Shreveport area residents can expect some pretty serious heat for the 4th of July. In fact, the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for July 04 from 11am-7pm.

Heat index values could reach between 105 and 109 during the afternoon hours. This heat will impact much of northwest Louisiana, north central Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, east and northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. The temperature in Shreveport is expected to climb to 100 degrees with Tyler seeing 103 and Longview is expected to see temps close to 101 degrees.

The National Weather Service reports the average temperature for July 4 in Shreveport is 93. The record high was 102 degrees in 1875. The record high temperature for July 5 in Shreveport is 101 which was set in 1938.

You are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, stay indoors in air conditioning, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in cars for any length of time.
