Shreveport Is One Of The 10 Unhappiest Cities In The US For 2022

Once again, Shreveport has been ranked as one of the unhappiest cities in the United States of America. But this time, it might be the unhappiest Shreveport has ever been.

Back in 2019, the company WalletHub listed Shreveport as one of the Top 20 Unhappiest Cities. Now the city has moved into the Top 10 Unhappiest.

WalletHub studies this because it pretty important. In face, they break down why it's important to study where you're going to live. Here's what they say:

"Location plays a hand in how bright or gloomy our days are. For years, researchers have studied the science of happiness and found that its key ingredients include a positive mental state, healthy body, strong social connections, job satisfaction and financial well-being."

Now, of course WalletHub didn't come to Shreveport and personally speak to everyone. They had to come up with metrics to measure happiness across more than 180 US cities. In order to figure out what metrics they needed to observe, they gathered a team of Ph.D. holders, college professors, and psychologists to help put this together. They got 10 experts together, and came up with over 30 metrics to measure cities, and rank them against each other.

Here's a list of the major metrics, that were given as much as "double weight", in their analysis:

- Life-Satisfaction Index
- Income-Growth Rate
- Depression Rate
- Share of Households Earning Annual Incomes Above $75,000
- Suicide Rate
- Job Security
- Life Expectancy
- Food-Insecurity Rate
- Poverty Rate
- Job Satisfaction
- Weekly Work Hours

With all of these metrics put together, the team studied the results, and were able tp come up with a list of the Top 10 Happiest, and Top 10 Unhappiest Cities in America.

Shreveport now lands in the Top 10 Unhappiest Cities in America. It's the only Louisiana city to make the Top 10 in the 2022 rankings.
