Rent Is Rising Faster Than Wages Nationwide
Wallet Hub had some scary information in this article, there was a mention of the cost of rent rising by more than 50% over 10 years. According to the Federal Reserve’s Consumer Price Index, wages haven’t increased at the same rate as rent has, making it harder for everyone in America to afford housing.
WalletHub analyzed the median annual gross rent in more than 180 cities, then compared it to the median household income. If you looked at the chart, you might have the same question I had: "How did Bismarck, North Dakota, rank 1st if the rent isn't that cheap?" The crew in Bismarck has the most affordable rent as a percentage of their income. WalletHub said, "The median annual gross rent in the city is around 15.3% of the median annual income. For comparison, Miami residents spend more than double that, or 33.5% of their income."

Experts suggest finding a rental that is rent-controlled. You have heard of certain cities placing limits on how much landlords can charge for rent, and it also limits how much a landlord can increase rent from year to year. Although that may seem like a simple task, there are only 7 states that have rent regulations in certain cities. Shreveport is not one of those cities.
