Shreveport Researcher Testing Cancer-Preventing Gum
If there was a gum out there that could prevent cancer, I would certainly chew it every day!
According to the Shreveport Times, Dr. Cherie-Ann Nathan has received a $50,000 grant to create and test a gum that could prevent cancer.
Nathan is a researcher at LSU Health Shreveport and has been a head and neck cancer specialist for more than five years. She plans on using curcumin, which is a substance in turmeric. She's been studying the effect of curcumin on head and neck cancers.
But why gum?
Her theory is that by bypassing the stomach, more curcumin could be delivered throughout the body to to attack cancerous cells. She plans on testing the gum on people in the next three months.
I wonder flavor she will choose.
