Keeping Street Lights on Is Still a Problem in Shreveport

I am still struggling with why Shreveport simply can not keep the streets lights on at locations all over the city.

It appears that I have become the "Street Light Queen" of the community and I get emails and texts every day from folks reporting lights out. I don't rant and rave about all of the neighborhood lights out. That is widespread. But I do have to take issue with the vast problems of street lights on our major thoroughfares. We have gotten reports about lights out on 3132, the Cross Lake Bridge, I-49 and of course, my favorite, I-20.

Why Are Street Lights in Shreveport Out?

Less than 2 months ago, I noticed all of the lights out on I-20 east and west bound from 3132 to Pines Road. Every doggone light was out. I emailed the Mayor and Public Works Director Gary Norman to let them know. The lights were fixed in just a few lights.

And now, all of these same lights are out again. Every doggone light on I-20 from 3132 to Pines Road is out. How does this happen? I really don't have a clue. It could be critters getting into the wiring. It could be faulty wiring. And this crazy idea recently came up. Could the city be trying to save money and turning lights out as one way to keep the light bill down? That's not likely. But some have suggested it to me.

In this video you can see just how dark it was one morning this week when it was very foggy. This makes I-20 even more dangerous. A recent report shows I-20 is the 2nd most dangerous highway in the nation.

This problem with lights was reported to the city on Monday. We will see how long it takes to get it fixed. Maybe we will have the lights back on for Christmas.
