Shreveport’s Taco Wars Breaks Records! Biggest Ever Fiesta Hits Town
The biggest Taco and Salsa competition/festival in the nation just took over Shreveport, and it was one of the most thrilling and exciting things to witness. In case you don't know, Taco Wars quickly became one of the region's favorite competitions. Who doesn't love a day dedicated to tacos, chips, salsa, and some ice-cold beer to wash the tacos down with, right?
Taco Wars Had a Record Breaking Crowd in Shreveport
According to the press release from Prize Fest, "A record-breaking crowd flocked to this year’s Taco Wars to celebrate Latino culture, food, and music at one of the country’s largest one-day taco and salsa festivals and competition." It is no secret that the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium looked beautiful; there were so many people from the Ark-La-Tex having a great time. What we love most is that there was over $168,000 in revenue for these local businesses that participated, which is a whopping 30%
increase in revenue generated from Taco Wars in 2024. That is a lot of tacos.
“It was pretty mind-blowing to see the crowds from all over the region come together and celebrate Latino and Hispanic culture,” said Gregory Kallenberg, Executive Director of the Prize Foundation and founder of Taco Wars. “The Prize Foundation is incredibly proud to host Taco Wars and see our community come together and, more importantly, eat a record number of tacos. Congrats to the winners, though, it feels like everyone won!”
The competition was intense, 14 Ark-La-Tex taquerias battled it out for the title of "Best Taco," and the judges declared La Villa Taqueria the winner of the Best Taco, and for the first time ever there was a tie in the salsa competition. Ramirez Mexican Restaurant just defended its title, with a tie for this year’s Best Salsa vote alongside Taqueria San Miguel. Both taquerias were awarded a $500 cash prize. The Salsa vote is the only competition that is solely picked by the taco lovers who show up to eat tacos.
When Will Taco Wars Return to Shreveport?
The only question the Shreveport-Bossier community has is, "When are we doing this again?" Prize Fest is sure to let us know the 2026 Taco Wars date as soon as possible, so we can all mark it on our calendars and plan ahead. We love that we have such an amazing festival like this that calls Shreveport home.
