Shreveport Native Donovan Wilson is a rising star in the NFL. Despite being a 6th round draft pick in 2019 and often considered a 'special teams guy', he has slowly but surely started to earn respect in the NFL this season. The Woodlawn product was forced into a major role due to injury this season and so far, he's made the case that he is a top flight safety in the NFL.

In Week 4 this year, he recorded his first career sack against Baker Mayfield. In Week 8, he recorded a strip sack against Carson Wentz. And last night, his physical play against the Vikings helped propel the Boys back into the win column.

For a defense that, at times, has seem lifeless this season, Wilson brought the pain and energy. He forced two fumbles against the Vikings both of which were recovered by the Cowboys. The second happened late in the game when Wilson BLEW UP superstar running back Dalvin Cook. That play helped seal a much needed victory for Dallas.

However, not only did Donovan's production help the Cowboys win, but his brutal playing style seems to have inspired his defensive team mates to play better. Cowboys reporter Michael Gehlken reported after the game that defensive captain DeMarcus Lawrence said the following about Wilson: "Shoutout to Donovan Wilson, 37, if y'all don’t know… That’s our hit man. Keep throwing that (expletive) across the middle, he gon’ keep hitting. Trust me."

Despite their poor play, the Cowboys 3-7 record keeps them in the hunt to win the NFC East. If their defense continues to play hard and not give up, there's a good chance that Wilson's play may not just help them win a game or two but help lead them to a playoff birth.
